INTERVIEW WITH KAMILA
You are helping women to create a meaningful wardrobe. What exactly is it?
A meaningful wardrobe is a wardrobe that meaningfully enhances your life in many aspects. It is meaningful to your finances and bank account. That means that it is not based on trends, it is free from the dictate of the fashion. It is meaningful to your lifestyle, it does not drain you in the morning when making a decision about what to wear. It inspires you, offers you a great outfit that is perfect for your mood with ease. A meaningful wardrobe also serves as a coach or even a therapist. It is your 3D vision board that you can take out to the world every day. It can remind you of who you are, what you came here to experience and what you are choosing to live on daily basis. Our closets have a lot of untapped potential. Last, but not the least, meaningful wardrobe is great for the planet. It is cooling down the climate, it is supporting life. I am teaching my clients how to adopt the mindset for circular fashion system and I am giving them tips to sustainable brands in case they need to buy something new. A meaningful wardrobe gains in quality over time. Not in quantity.
I love the idea of sustainable fashion. Can you tell me exactly what it is?
There are many approaches. I like to say that it is a fashion that supports life. We can say that it is made with respect to the planet, people, and profits of the company as these are the three pillars of sustainable development. It is about circular economy and cradle to cradle design, fair trade, and many other practices to make sure the process of production is at least not harmful. This is from the industry's point of view.
Creating a sustainable closet is a whole different approach. It is about slowing down. About falling in love and creating long-lasting relationships with the clothes we wear. It is about choosing quality pieces so that we can pass them on to the next person once they do not fit in our style or complement our silhouette anymore. It is about buying pre-loved clothes. It is about creativity and mostly about acquiring a new fashion mindset that serves us and the planet.
What's your personal experience in the fashion industry?
I had a dream of "making it in fashion". Originally from a post-communist country, I did not see any other way than to become a famous designer, the second Christian Dior. So I studied design, worked as a textile designer in Germany, and then moved to London where I worked in product development at a supplier of the biggest chain stores you all know. I saw the process of making hundreds of thousands of dresses from a sketch to the goods in the stores all around the world. I also observed that the creative industry I imagined during my studies was more of a business, a meaningless cash machine selling such poor-quality clothes. When I moved to Paris and started working in product development for a major department store I finally saw the madness of the industry I was working for and I quit. It made no sense to me. After my MBA started teaching sustainable development and circular economy for the fashion industry at several fashion schools in Paris. I took the hard road of being an ambassador of slow and sustainable fashion in the Czech Republic. I lead the international campaign Fashion Revolution, founded an event SLOU DAYS, published three books, and most lately started showing women how to apply everything I knew in their closets so we can create a truly meaningful fashion system for us all.
How is your approach different from other stylists and personal shoppers?
I work with women to pass on a new mindset, new approach to themselves and their clothes that will save them a lot of time and money and increase the quality of their wardrobe in the long term. I will not ask you to join me in a shopping mall and pick pieces for you. Instead we will look in your wardrobe and uses its full potential. I will not choose the latest trends for you to give you instant satisfaction that will not last. Instead I will listen to YOUR needs and help you create a wardrobe that truly supports you in your lifestyle, moods and emotions. I empower women to trust themselves, to dress up for themselves and with what they have at home. As I like to say: your dream wardrobe is already in your closet. It is more about decluttering than it is about shopping.
You will see that this process is more of a coaching or a therapy even if the result is your new wardrobe. I often guide my clients through rough patches in their lives - divorce, expressing their feminine energy, deep personal transformation, leaving the past behind and becoming the women they have always meant to be.
How can you help me make the transition to meaningful wardrobe?
There are 6 steps to follow.
First we will analyse your shopping psychology and I will show you how you might be pushed and pull to buy. You will gain a shopping proof mindset to make sure your closet is not going to get packed in few weeks after we unf*ck it.
Then we will deinstall some of the limiting beliefs about you and what you can and cannot wear.
Then I will show you some aesthetic rules so that you know what fits you in terms of silhouettes, necklines, colours or even earring shapes.
The fourth step is imagining and defining your dream closet.
Number five is defining your dream wardrobe and style.
And finally - time to unf*ck your closet.
How much money do I need to create my new meaningful wardrobe?
As little as non. A meaningful wardrobe is mostly about wearing what you already have. We will most likely find out that some pieces are missing for you to feel perfectly confident and self-actualised in your clothes and we will try to buy them second-hand - the very affordable option - or from sustainable brands - the meaningful investment option. But first of all, we will use the full potential of the clothes you already own and I will show you how to shop slowly, to make the best possible choices.
What results can I expect from working with you?
You will define your style that will help you to purchases pieces that will compliment your wardrobe.
You will get clarity in your closet where everything matches everything, where energy flows, and where you can go to resource yourself.
You will become confident to invest in yourself, your closet, and our shared future with power and intention.
And some magic. This is personal for every client, but the results for this work is beyond our imagination.
That sounds amazing! What's the process?
If we decide to work together, there is a preparation for you to do. I will guide you through it via videos and workbook you will receive and we will go through your insights and results at the beginning of our first live meeting. In the preparation work, you will define the ideal size of your wardrobe and your style.
Our first live meeting will be dedicated to going through your preparation work together to see what you want to create. I will assist you in case it is difficult for you to make a STYLE board.
During our second meeting we will unf*ck the closet.
In our third meeting in your place, we might create the outfits or find sustainable ways to purchase the pieces you need to create a flawless wardrobe that will support you in all the moods and roles you have in your life.
How long will we be working together?
This process usually takes between two and three months. It is mainly the preparation work that you can spread over five weeks. It is better to let it sink in instead of rushing through the process.
I have a family and a busy life. Although I want to dedicate time to my wardrobe badly, I don't have much time to spare. How much time do I need?
In the preparation process - the first four weeks - count an hour a week to listen to watch the short video and do the exercise. It can be a little bit more the last week when you will create your STYLE board and put together pictures to define your style.
And then we have the two meetings together. And you are set with a new mindset and an unf*cked, meaningful, and effective wardrobe.
I have many beautiful pieces, can you help me resell them?
Yes. We have collaborations in place to take over your pieces and sell them.
I don't know where to dispose of the old clothes in the most eco-friendly way. Can you take the unwanted clothes off my hands and look after them?
Yes, it is possible if we work together face to face. I will leave your place with all the clothes that are not worth you anymore, that does not fit you in any way so there is instantly a breath of fresh air in your space. We have partnerships in place to pass the clothes on in the most sustainable way available at this moment. Creating a circular fashion system is one of my top priorities in my life.
Will you help me to do the shopping?
Yes, of course! Our last meeting can be even dedicated to creating the outfits or shopping.
Can we do this online?
If you live too far from Paris or in another country we can work online together or you can also join a group program called Self Investment club. You will learn deeper the mindset and new approach to your closet that will help you to detox your closet yourself. You will be supported and share the journey with other women in the program.
OK, I know which program I want. How do we get started?
If your choice is working with me one on one, let's jump on the phone or meet for a coffee in Paris and see if we are a match and I can help you to achieve the results you want.
